PYONGYANG, March 8 (Xinhua) — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sunday criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. The ICC’s arrest warrant posed a threat to world peace and disturbed stability of international relations, a spokesman of the DPRK’s foreign ministry said. The decision not only interfered the internal affairs of a nation but also hurt the dignity of Sudanese people, he said, adding that the DPRK called for a peaceful settlement of the Darfur issue. The Hague-based ICC on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for Bashir for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the country’s restive western region of Darfur between 2003 and 2008. Sudan has rejected the ICC’s jurisdiction since the court’s prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo launched a campaign against Bashir in July.
